September 10th is my Birthday. I usually go to some nice beaches to celebrate it. But this year, I did something different. I went camping for a night to the highest mountain in Bali, Mount Agung, and this time i celebrated it with Hakim, who has birthday a day apart from me, Giri, my other best friend and Kadek plus Tomo, my new friend.
As usual, before mountain, i never really done the proper preparation or exercise. On September 10th, we drove from Sanur to Puri Besakih in the afternoon. After all set, around 1.30 pm we started our hike. That day the weather was really nice. We could see clearly the top of the mountain without any clouds, and it was really sunny.
For almost 2-3 hours, we walked and hiked into the uphill forest. It was really tiring and boring because you see nothing but trees. But for the last one hour of our trekking, the view in the forest was really beautiful. We arrived during sunset at our base camp. From there we could see north and west Bali, and some other Bali mountains.
We were really lucky with the weather. A bit chilly but no fog, rain or strong wind. After dinner, we went straight to the tent to have some rest. Around 3 am, I woke up and tried to captured the milky way while everyone still sleeping. Slowly, other people were waking up and preparing breakfast for the summit.
Actually from our base camp to the summit is not that far. But still, the way up was a bit tiring for me because i was not that fit to hike since in the morning. The trek was steeply rocky hill. Accompanied by Kadek, who already hiked Mount Agung few times already, we hiked to the summit for 2 hours and arrived just in time for the sunrise. The view on top of the mountain was breathtaking. No clouds, no strong wind, no rain, and no fog. It was very clear. We were lucky
To go back down to the base camp and to the car park was a bit challenging thing if you don't have enough strong knees. It took 1.5 hours to go down to the base camp from the peak, and another 2 hours from base camp to the car park.
But everything was worth it. I celebrated birthday with my best friends and had another new experiences and also, I conquered my 6th mountain.
