Since i rerouted my destination from Sapporo to north of Tokyo, visiting Nagano became in my list. But i didn't go for skiing, where it's famous to visit for, I just wanted to enjoy snow and do sightseeing. When i arrived late in the afternoon in town, the snow started to fall heavily.
And the next day, i went to Jigokudani Snow Monkey Park. It was heavy snow fall that morning, and we had to walk pass the forest about 1 hour walking to see the Snow Monkey doing onsen and we went to Shibu Onsen afterwards. Beautiful day indeed.
On the last day, snow fall stopped. Before my departure to go to Takayama, we managed to walk around the city, visited Zenkoji Temple and went up to Ryozenji to see Nagano city view from up the hill. And everything was in walk distance. It looks far in the map but actually not that far when we walked around. Definitely go to this city when you have chance. You can go skiing and snowborading or just relax visiting temple, snow monkey park, or doing onsen.
